The Church of Peace in Świdnica is a timber church whose monumental interior combines a precise frame construction with Baroque decoration. The outside is restrained, while the interior opens into a multi-level space of galleries, boxes, paintings and organs. ## What to see Notice the contrast between the modest exterior and the rich interior. Look across the galleries and boxes, read the decorative symbols and observe how the space served historic communities. The church is also a venue for the Bach Festival, keeping music central to its current identity. It was built in 1656–1657 after the Thirty Years’ War under restrictions on materials and the location of Protestant churches. Timber, clay and straw made it possible to create a huge building without the silhouette of a traditional masonry church. Together with the Church of Peace in Jawor, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Opening times follow the parish and seasonal schedule, so check before travelling. Allow 45–60 minutes for a calm visit. The building is a good rainy-day stop, but mobility access can be limited; contact the site if you need detailed accessibility information. Avoid flash photography and remember that this is an active church.
